Walt Disney first thought about Disneyland while visiting Griffith Park with his daughters. He watched his daughters ride the Merry-Go-Round and came up with an idea of a place where both children and adults could have a lot of fun. While this dream of his would remain a dream for many years, Disneyland finally became a reality in the 1950s when the American population started shifting towards the West Coast.

Walt Disney used to receive many requests asking for permission to visit Disney Studio. While visiting a studio wasn’t Mr. Disney’s idea of entertainment, he thought of an alternative and started off by creating a small park near his Burbank studios. He installed some theme areas in the park that also had a boat ride. Mr. Disney’s next step was to create the Mickey Mouse Park on 8 acres of land across Riverside Drive. Even as Mickey Mouse Park was in full swing, Walt Disney started visiting other amusement parks across the country for better ideas. After some detailed research, he hired Harrison Price, a consultant from Stanford to further his research and look at the potential of an amusement park of his own. Based on Mr. Price’s report, Walt Disney acquired a piece of land containing orange groves and walnut trees in Anaheim, California. This 160 acre plot of land was situated in the Orange Country south-east of Los Angeles.

During the initial days, Walt Disney faced enormous funding problems. ABC television network had come into being around that time. Mr. Disney started a program called Disneyland which was broadcast on ABC. In return, ABC helped the funding for the park. The construction began on July 18 1954 and completed exactly a year later and cost USD$ 17 million.

On July 18 1955, Disneyland was opened to the public. The day before, an International Press Review was arranged for special guests and the media. The event was telecast throughout the United States on ABC and anchored by Ronald Reagan, Bob Cummings and Art Linkletter. However, the day went completely wrong. From overcrowding to unfinished work inside the park, everything was awry. Disneyland got the worst possible publicity for this effort. The press had to be invited for another private event on another day. On 18th July, the crowd started gathering at 2 am. David MacPherson was the first person to buy a ticket and enter the park. For the first 5 years, Disneyland was jointly owned by Walt Disney Productions, Western Publishing, Walt Disney and ABC. ABC’s shares were purchased by Walt Disney productions in 1960.

In the late 1990s, various development projects were carried on and the park became a resort. Another theme park, Disney’s California Adventure Park was added. Downtown Disney, a dining and entertainment complex was also added and the Disneyland Hotel was refurbished completely. The Pan-Pacific Hotel was also acquired.

In 2004, major renovations were done in the park to celebrate the 50th anniversary. In 2005 and 2006, Disneyland celebrated an 18-month long 50th anniversary that ended on September 30 2006.

When Disneyland started in 1955, it was an amusement located on a 160 acre plot in Orange Country, California near Anaheim and south-east of Los Angeles. Seeing the growing popularity of the amusement park, many new additions were done to the initial property and one of them was Disney’s California Adventure Park. This theme park is located adjacent to the main Disneyland Park and is situated on a 55 acre land area.

Disney’s California Adventure Park initially got a bad response because visitors thought it did not match the thrill and excitement that Disneyland Park offered. However, after a series of renovations and new additions, Disney’s California Adventure Park slowly started gaining popularity and today it is almost as popular as the main Disneyland Park.

For visitors who come to Disneyland and want to visit both the parks, there is a special pass called Park Hopper Pass. As the name suggests, a Park Hopper pass allows the visitors to hop from one park to the other. There is no restriction on the number of times someone hops from one park to another. Visitors may start their day on any of the two parks and spend any amount of time in either park. To avail this Park Hopper pass, all the visitors need to do is keep their tickets with them and get a hand stamp when they exit a part for the first time. Both the ticket and the hand stamp are required to gain a re-entry into either of the parks. Both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure Park have different hand stamps and one each from both of them and a valid ticket allow the visitors to hop.

There are various Park Hopper passes available for the visitors to Disneyland. A 1-day Park Hopper pass costs $84 for children and $94 for adults. A 2-day pass costs $123 for children and $143 for adults. Both these tickets can be purchased online but there is no discount offered. The 3-day Park Hopper pass costs $169 for children and $199 for adults. If purchased advance online, there are discounts offered. The prices get reduced to $149 for children and $179 for adults. A 4-day pass costs $194 and $224 for children and adults respectively. The same pass costs $164 for children and $194 for adults when purchased in advance online. The 5-day pass costs $214 and $244 for children and adults respectively. The 5-day pass costs $174 for children and $204 for adults when purchased in advance online. There is also a 6-day pass that costs $219 for children and $249 for adults. When purchased in advance online, the cost gets reduced to $179 for children and $209 for adults. All the passes that are valid for 3 days or more include an early entry admission.

The Disneyland Park Hopper passes are ideal for all tourists visiting Disneyland. Separate tickets to both the parks are more expensive and one doesn’t have the option of reentries. With the Park Hopper passes, visitors not only save on time but also get to experience their favorite rides in both the parks.

The hotel industry near Disneyland is a thriving industry, thanks to the millions of visitors who visit Disneyland every year. On one hand, competition is stiff between the hotels and on the other hand, the visitors also need to make advanced arrangements for their stay near Disneyland. During the peak season, it will be sheer madness if someone visits Disneyland without a prior hotel arrangement.

There are plenty of hotels with plenty of rooms near Disneyland. The business opportunities are enormous and as a result, all the hotels offer attractive deals and discounts to woo the visitors.

For the visitors, the first thing that they should figure out while planning a visit to Disneyland is their budget. Without a planned budget, things could go awfully wrong. Visitors should plan the amount of money they would be willing to spend on stay and entertainment. Once the budget is fixed, it will not be difficult to locate a hotel within one’s budget range. There are many online websites that offer an array of choices of hotel packages. However, there is no fixed rate because they keep on changing with the seasons. So, one should look at multiple websites and go for the most attractive deal.

Courtyard By Marriott Anaheim At Disneyland® Resort, Anaheim,CA

One can go for the basic packages or upgrade their packages to include dining and other benefits. With the Disney packages, the biggest advantage is one gets an early entrance into one of the theme parks. However, there are many who go for this package. Apart from Disneyland resorts, this early entrance package is also available with all the Good Neighbor properties nearby. So, there is a mad rush on most of the days and many prefer not opting for this option. The advantage that Good Neighbor properties have over the Disney resorts is that they are more economical and offer the same early entry option.

An attractive deal with the discounted Disneyland hotel packages is that most of the packages come with amenities like free airport pick and drop, Park Hopper options and other deals on tickets. Some hotels offer complimentary breakfast and coffee and other modern amenities for free. A well planned discount Disneyland hotel package ensures that the visitors can spend time on what they have planned – fun and entertainment at Disneyland.

It is a good idea to visit Disneyland during the off peak season. The rush is much less and the chances of getting a better bargain are considerably more. Most of the local hotels and travel agents offer some exciting schemes to lure visitors during this lean period and throw in a lot of goodies for good measure. During the peak season, when the rush is at its highest, the chances of a discounted hotel package are at a bare minimum because the hotels are overbooked at times. One needs to plan well in advance to get a discounted package.
